17th Annual Fruit Sale

Every winter the Harvard Lions club holds its Citrus Fruit Sale, featuring orange and grapefruits from Florida Indian River Groves. Each year over 800 cases of fresh fruit are shipped from Florida directly to Harvard where it is stored in cold storage lockers at Carlson's Orchards. Special thanks to the Carlsons from everyone in our club for making this possible.

Press Release - 2/15/2008

Have you noticed that the Harvard Lions Club members have not been intercepting you to take fruit orders as you dump your trash at the Transfer Station this year? That’s because they have adopted a new approach to their popular fruit sale. This year, the Lions Club has ordered a shipment of fruit based on last year’s sales. The fruit is scheduled to arrive in Harvard in early March. The fruit will be sold on a “cash and carry” basis. This means you can place your order and take your fruit home with you all on the same day!

The same delicious oranges and grapefruit will be available for sale; small boxes are available for $22 and large boxes are $32; and a small mixed box of oranges and grapefruit will be available for $24. This fruit is fresher and pricing is lower than local supermarkets, so plan to pick up a supply when you see the Lions around Town!

Fruit sales stations will be set up at the Harvard Transfer Station on Saturday March 8th & 15th (8:00AM-2:00PM) and Wednesday March 12th (7:30AM-11:30AM); Harvard Town Center on Saturday March 8th & 15th and Sunday March 9th & 16th (8:00AM-4:00PM), and the Boxboro Transfer Station on Saturday March 8th & 15th (8:00AM-4:00PM). If necessary, stations will be set up on the following Saturday, March 22. During the sale period, fruit will be safely stored at Carlson’s Orchards. The Harvard Lions appreciate the help of the Carlson Family each year for making this event possible.

The Harvard Lions Club’s annual fruit sale is their second-largest fundraising event each year. Last year, the Club sold 27,500 lbs of fruit and raised $7,900 for charity.

All proceeds from the fruit sale benefit charities of the Harvard Lions Club, including education and research for eyesight and diabetes through Lions International, and local community causes including the Harvard Public Schools and other local Community causes. In recent years, the Harvard Lions have supported the purchase of vision systems and reading software for the Harvard Elementary School, and the Bromfield School.
